The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim VR (PC) Review
One of the strengths of Skyrim is that it's a deep and free experience that doesn't tie you down but lets you explore anything and to your heart's content. When you're accessing or swapping between certain items often, this feature is pretty handy to avoid searching through the tree-structured menu. The world is not changed in any way, aside of course from your perspective in this world. The Ultimate Way to Experience Skyrim, Period Virtual Reality is still a novelty to many, and for those who have yet to experience it, a mystery. This is blurry and really bad looking.

Both versions of gameplay are a lot of fun, but for the most part the real action is with the PlayStation Move controllers. If I manage to fix it I will revise my rating a bit. Each controller features a colour-changing sphere and built-in vibration feedback. Gazing across sweeping, mountain vistas, or up at an angry giant, looming directly overhead, has an extra, visceral punch here above and beyond what the base game can achieve. Blade combat devolves into flailing your arms around and awkwardly trying to maximize your damage at the expense of a realistic sword feel. If you've played it, you'll know exactly what you're getting into.

Playing with a wireless headset would make it even better so you can spin and twirl around during melee combat to keep an eye on your backside. I remember exploring the depths of dungeons as the undead attacked from all sides. Its never been done before. It can feel like trying to fight with one hand tied behind your back. It just seemed like an impossible dream. Dragons, long lost to the passages of the Elder Scrolls, have returned to Tamriel and the future of the Empire hangs in the balance. I think this is huge.

Some were ports of existing games, others were re-imaginings, and others were just plain shite. Spells roar with a voracious power that makes them feel like true destructive forces. The shift in perspective made me notice details out of the corner of my eye that I've never seen in any of my previous playthroughs. No, what I remember is staring into the face of a dragon and living to tell the tale. It really is an incredible experience to be inside this world. You may try a new character build or try to get deeper into the game to see it from an angle you've never seen it before.

It also means that we aren't tied to unwieldy attack animations but can attack opponents as quickly as our actual arm movement allows. The new headset model is impressive. The dragon appeared and I was a little scared. Want to become a sword and shield-wielding fighter that wears heavy armor and bullies his way through the world? Seeing a stream of fire shoot from your hands is an empowering feeling, and thanks to individual hand tracking you can even zap two different things at once, or hold your hands together to intensify the attack. As you gain real experience using these types of weapons, that skill will level up, contributing to an overall level as well.

Some people would prefer a great 5 hour experience to an ok 50 hour experience. From that moment, we are free to do whatever we'd like in the open world of Skyrim. Where it excels is as a sandbox environment to explore, but even this wore on me after a while as the gameplay possibilities are pretty shallow. If my arms were tired or I wanted to sit back while playing then this was the method I used. As a result, the list is being constantly updated with excellent fresh experiences, with plenty more arriving all the time. Part of my appreciation of it is likely from my brain filling in some details with memories of having seen it look better in past playthroughs.

This uses teleportation for movement and slow click turns for rotation while using the Move controllers. All of these options have their own fully realized mechanics that allow you to enhance your equipment, brew potions, or create high quality ingredients to sell to local vendors. Both the fact that the items existed there, and the fact that I could make use of them elsewhere in the world, made even this random shack feel a lot more real than if it had just been an empty building. Want to become a sword and shield-wielding fighter that wears heavy armor and bullies his way through the world? So no upper limit, and a higher score always means a better game, and a lower score always means a worse game. It can be tough to scan the horizon, as the rendering detail drops off somewhat precipitously.

Free movement happens when pressing the Move button the large button on the left Motion controller and pointing in a direction. Even now, six years later, there are still bugs in Skyrim to find. I never really appreciated the size and scale of Skyrim until I was standing on the Throat of the World, or seeing a dragon up close. This is one I will be definitely playing for a long time.
